Guillermo del Toro To Receive London Critics’ Circle Film Awards Top Honour

Following the announcement of their 2026 Film Awards nominees, the London Critics’ Circle has announced that Guillermo del Toro will be honoured with the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film.

The Frankenstein director is set receive the accolade at the 46th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards on Sunday, 1st February. He joins a long list of recipients of the annual award, named in memory of legendary British film critic Dilys Powell.

The filmmaker commented on the news, “Thank you to the London Film Critics’ Circle. It’s an honour to receive the Dilys Powell Award from a group I greatly admire and to join such an esteemed group of recipients. Working in this industry continues to be the joy of a lifetime.”

Last year, the London Critics’ Circle awarded the honour to James Bond star Daniel Craig. Previous recipients include Michelle Yeoh, Ken Loach, Sandy Powell, Kenneth Branagh, Sally Potter, Pedro Almodovar and Kate Winslet.

Guillermo del Toro‘s debut feature film was his 1993 horror fantasy Cronos. Regardless of the genre, he has become a master of captivating audiences with imaginative, memorable worlds and emotionally-driven fantastical stories. He has won countless awards, including three Oscars, three BAFTAs  and two Golden Globes.

As both director and producer, his career so far has encompassed numerous acclaimed titles, including The Devil’s Backbone, Pan’s Labyrinth, Mimic, Hellboy, Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. His most recent film, Frankenstein, is gathering momentum on the awards circuit and in May he will also receive a BFI Fellowship for his contribution to film.

The winners in all categories for 46th annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards will be announced at The May Fair in London on  February 1st at a ceremony hosted by acclaimed critic Mark Kermode.
