If you’re eagerly awaiting Blade Runner 2049 later this year, you’ll probably be looking forward to Duncan Jones Mute. It’s been the passion project for the British director for many years and after Warcraft this maybe the project to get him back in form.
The sci-fi noir is not getting a big screen outing, it is, however, getting next best thing one digitally thanks to Netflix. Thanks to the streaming giants we get our first Look at the highly-anticipated futuristic movie with 3 new images. The images highlight the trio of Alexander SkarsgÄrd, Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux.
Mute is set in the near-future, Leo (Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin. Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leoâs search for her takes him deep into the cityâs seedy underbelly. A pair of wisecracking American surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux) are the only recurring clue and Leo is forced to take on this teeming underworld in order to find his love.
If you’re going to sci-fi noir, you’ve got to have the neon lights, set in the future, shady characters and ones full of mystery. The movie is meant to be part of the trilogy which was kicked off by Jones fantastically underrated Moon. It does seem to be set in the same time period as Moon but Jones has only teased that officially Mute will be a sequel. Many will say it’s inspired by Blade Runner, something we can’t really answer at this stage, but visually it does look to share a similar style. The cult movie I’m sure has influenced the director if it does or doesn’t we’re certainly looking forward to seeing him back on track with a great movie.
Netflix haven’t confirmed a release date yet for Mute apart from 2017 for all regions including UK&Ireland.
