Film Review – Kimi (2022)

That unforgettable day I first experienced Cannes grand jury prize winning monumental independent cinema game changer Sex, Lies & Videotape, was the day I immediately knew I wanted to see everything director Steven Soderbergh for the rest of his career.

Captivating Zoe Kravitz, is also riveting as audio adjustment corrector Angela Childs, working with top selling tech information assistant KIMI (like an advanced Alexa or Google voice responder).

Angela is seriously agoraphobic, rarely leaving her open planned Seattle apartment working from home in between cups of coffee whilst peering over neighbours’ daily activities. Even a seriously ongoing toothache is not enough to warrant a visit to the dentist.

Researching and analysing audio streams of variable content keeps Angela amused. however, one in particular when isolated seems to be the sounds of an alleged sexual assault. When taking this information to her employer, inevitably resulting in leaving the apartment, things go from simple concern to running for survival.

Put down to Angela just being hyper fixated, stuff soon get real.

A conspiracy is unveiled that her company, led by passive aggressive tyrannical liar, Natalie Chowdhury (brilliantly played by Rita Wilson) orders lethal action to ensure her silence.

Borrowing from classics like Blow Out (1981) Rear Window (1954) The Conversation (1974) and if my ears are correct, a musical cue from Vertigo (1958) by accomplished composer Cliff Martinez.

This mildly budgeted veracious thriller from maestro Soderbergh is a must see. Loved it.
