F1 producer shares sequel update and Lewis Hamilton involvement
F1 producer Jerry Bruckheimer has given a new update on the 2025 sports drama’s sequel.
During a talk with The Hollywood Reporter’s Nominees Night, Bruckheimer mentioned conversations with Lewis Hamilton, the British racing driver who holds a total of seven Formula One World Drivers Championship titles and creative consultant on the first F1 film, about which direction the second film’s story should take.
“We’re getting it going through him and pitching him the ideas and see what he thinks,” the producer shared with PEOPLE.
F1 was released in the summer of 2025 and was directed by Joseph Kosinski, working from a script by When Kruger. It starred Brad Pitt as Formula One racer Sonny Hayes in his journey of returning from a 30-year-long hiatus following a career-ending crash to save his former teammate’s team. The rescue mission involves training rookie Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris, and helping unleash his prodigy potential.
The film was a critical success and earned rankings in Best Film of the Year lists. It also grossed a total of $633 million from a budget of $200-300 million.
Following confirmation of a sequel, Bruckheimer stated that the team are “working on the story” for the follow-up film, which he feels is “really good.”
When asked if Hollywood icon Pitt would reprise his role, Bruckheimer teased: film’s big stars like Brad Pitt could be returning. “We’ll see. I’m not going to tell you yet.”
