Everything Is Awesome! Lego Directors To Direct Ghostbusters 3?
After the blow this week of Ivan Reitman pulling out of the directors chair for Ghostbusters 3, it left you wondering if this film would ever see the light of day. News has just broke that ‘Everything is Awesome’ and Sony have found their directors, Lego Movie creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller!
When you look at it this news is not as surprising, it’s Awesome! Since 21 Jump Street which by many critics was set up to be a failure but since it became an unexpected hit everything they touch turns into critically acclaimed but most of all entertaining films. From 21st Jump Street to A cloudy Chance With Meatballs to the recent The Lego Movie everything they direct seems to to turn to box office gold . With Ghostbusters franchise a combo of action and quirky comedy this project fits nicely with Miller and Lord’s brand of filmmaking and if it’s going to happen, it’s probably the best news the film could ask for.
The timing of this news is near perfect as 22 Jump Street now in final stages of post production for it’s summer release the pair haven’t announced what their next project would be. Some say they may jump right into The Lego Movie sequel however the talk is Ghostbusters 3 might be the likely project and Sony still have the film set for a late 2015 release date. One thing we haven’t considered is do Miller and Lord want to direct Ghostbusters 3?
Even if they do sign on for Ghostbusters 3 there is a few hurdles Phil Lord and Chris Miller have to tackle first. The film production looks set for an early 2015 start which may delay those future plans the pair already have in place (The Lego Movie 2 possibly). They have to check out the script from Etan Cohen which Reitman has stated ‘ the studio are very excited about‘, the pair will want to tweak it to suit their own vision. There is also the small matter of the cast and since talk of the 3rd movie has been on the horizon it’s been said they will aim for an younger cast, who and are they interested most of all available?
