EIFF 2012:Watch The Intense UK Trailer SHADOW DANCER
You can’t get any more diverse in choice of films than director James Marsh though they all have one thing in common, all films of the highest quality. From Red Riding: In The Year Of Our Lord 1980,Man On Wire,Project Nim and now it looks like he’ll continue that with SHADOW DANCER. Tonight we have the U.K trailer which Paramount Pictures have kindly sent us a film based on the novel by Tom Bradby starring Clive Owen, Andrea Riseborough and Gillian Anderson in what’s been called a slow paced thriller about a Republican Mother (Risenborough) living in Belfast who is arrested as part of a failed IRA bomb plot and forced to become a informant or be sent to 25 To Life if she doesn’t spy on her family which puts her life in danger sparking off a chain of events.
The early reviews maybe very mixed however the pace of this film sets a intense conspiracy Theory thriller which will feel more at home with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Munich than a pacy action thriller. Tonight the film makes its Irish premiere in Belfast tonight with the UK Premier happening at The Edinburgh Film Festival on June 29th, then on 30th (more info here), Shadow Dancer also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Martin McCann and Aidan Gillen. The film goes on General release in UK&Ireland from August 25th, American release still to be confirmed.
SHADOW DANCER is the new film from Academy Award® winning director James Marsh (Man on Wire, Red Riding, Project Nim) starring Andrea Riseborough (W.E, Made in Dagenham), Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Clive Owen and Emmy®, Golden Globe®, and SAG award-winning actress, Gillian Anderson. SHADOW DANCER originated as a novel, written by Tom Bradby during his time as a TV correspondent in Northern Ireland in the 1990s. Tom Bradby adapted his novel for the big screen and SHADOW DANCER is his first feature film. Single mother Collette McVeigh (Andrea Riseborough) is a Republican living in Belfast with her mother and hardliner IRA brothers. When she is arrested for her part in an aborted IRA bomb plot in London, an MI5 officer Mac (Clive Owen) offers her a choice: lose everything and go to prison for 25 years or return to Belfast to spy on her own family. With her son’s life in her hands, Collette chooses to place her trust in Mac and return home, but when her brothers’ secret operation is ambushed, suspicions of an informant are raised and Collette finds both herself and her family in grave danger. SHADOW DANCER will be released by Paramount Pictures on August 25, 2012.
