Downton Abbey 3: Universal Announced Title And Date For Third Film

The time has come that many of us have been dreading. The end of Downton Abbey will shortly be upon us. However, fear not, as today, Focus Features and Universal Pictures have the new film that will be called Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third and final film adaptation of the successful television series that started all the way back in 2010. The show that became an overnight sensation and became beloved by millions around the world, will wrap up its story on September 12th.
Whilst not much is known of the storyline, the third film is written by Lord Julian Fellows, all the major cast members you’ve come to know and love (and hate, in some instances), are all back including Hugh Bonneville’s The Earl of Grantham, Elizabeth McGovern’s Cora, The Countess of Grantham, Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary and Laura Carmichael’s Marchioness of Hexham’s Lady Edith.
But, one noticeable absence will be heavily felt: Dame Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess. Whilst The Dowager passed away at the end of the last film, Dame Maggie’s passing in September of last year will no doubt resonate more as the worldwide phenomenon comes closes the doors of Downton Abbey for one last time. With new additions featuring Oscar Nominee Paul Giamatti (he reprises his role as Cora’s brother from the series), Alessandro Nivola, Sir Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan are all expected to appear in undisclosed roles.
BAFTA and Emmy Award nominee Simon Curtis returns to helm the final movie after the franchisees sequel, which will be produced by long-standing series producers Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge, and Julian Fellows.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale hits UK cinemas on September 12th.
