Doc Savage Movie gets Studio and director

He’s the man of  Bronze and He’s Doc Savage! dum! da dum!! Hes coming back to our cinema’s!!! The 1930/1040’s pulp comic book hero created by Henry W Ralston the man of superhuman abilities , strength of Hercules, a photographic brain, great endurance, master of the martial arts and of many sciences. Along with been the master of disguises & imitator of voices Doc Savage used his masterful life to deafeat evil all around the world!!

Yesterday Collider reported that Columbi pictures/Sony Entertainment hve picked up the rights to make the pulp magazine hero and today First Showing reports that Shane Black will be the man in the directors chair for this movie. Variety stated that this will only be Blacks second ever directed movie but he does have an sucessfull producing CV with a host of great 19080s flicks such as Leathal Weapon (when it was good), The Monster Squad and A long Goodnight with Kiss,Kiss, Bang Bang been his directoral debut.

Shane Black (a collector of old detective books & pulp fiction, well according to variety) will also been involved in the writing of the script helping out newcomers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. Green Hornet/Battle Of L.A scripters Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur will be producing the movie with Moritz’s Original Film Production company been there base.

Columbia co-president Matt Tolmach said the following about the Man of brinze return to the big screen:

“We have had a great experience working with Neal to bring another classic character of the era, the Green Hornet, to a new generation of fans, and we think he and Shane make the ideal team to bring Doc Savage back to the bigscreen” – (sourced from First Showing Post)

Ive never read the books but when I think of Doc Savage I just remember one friday late afternoon after school back in late 1980’s watching BBC 2 and watching the 1975 movie DOC SAVAGE:MAN OF BRONZE with Ron  Ely as Doc. It was camp, cheesy but homage to the pulp fiction hero and as the movie came out 2 weeks before I was born it was my only real experience of the character so this will be a whole new ball game to me.
