Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies Getting A Limited 4K Release

Before Blade Runner 2049 and the Dune films Denis Villeneuve gave us Incendies. In August, 101 Films will re-release the film in August with a  4K UHD limited edition part of  101 Films Black Label Title 038.

The film just came prior to his lauded thrillers Sicario, Enemy and Prisoners. Adapted by the director himself with Valérie Beaugrand-Champagne from Wajdi Mouawad’s play, Incendies is partly based on the life of communist militant Souha Bechara and set amongst the backdrop of an unnamed Middle Eastern conflict.

Incendies was critically acclaimed upon its release with critics praising the film’s performances, emotional impact, and its devastating depiction of the senseless and futile nature of hatred and religious conflict. The acclaim the film received culminated in nominations for Best Foreign Language film at the Academy Awards and the BAFTAs. Now one of the biggest names in Hollywood, interest in Denis Villeneuve’s earlier films is as high as ever, and Incendies continues to rank among his finest work.

This limited edition release features a brand-new 4K master, supervised and approved by Villeneuve and cinematographer André Turpin, as well as behind the scenes documentary Remembering the Ashes: Incendies Through Their Eyes and an archive commentary and interview with the director. The package also features newly commissioned artwork and a booklet with brand new essays on the film.

A mother’s dying wish creates a painful puzzle her children are forced to solve. At the reading of their mother’s will,  twins Jeanne and Simon are given instructions to locate the father they believed was dead and the brother neither  knew existed. They travel to the Middle East to piece together the story of the woman who brought them into the  world, only to make a shocking discovery.
