David Harbour Joins Noah Centineo in Lionsgate’s Rambo Prequel
Jalmari Helander is directing the action movie.
David Harbour is officially joining the cast of Lionsgate and Millennium Media’s upcoming Rambo prequel movie, John Rambo.
The Stranger Things and Thunderbolts* actor will report for duty as Major Sam Trautman, commanding officer of the titular soldier played by Noah Centineo (Streetย Fighter,ย Blackย Adam), according to Deadline.
Jalmari Helander (Sisu) helms the origin story, with the script coming from writing duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam, The Mauritanian). Much of the plot is being kept under wraps, but we know it takes place years before the events of First Blood, the movie that kicked off Sylvester Stallone’s Ramboย trilogy of the 1980s.
Seen as a father figure and mentor to Stallone’s Rambo, the character Sam Trautman was played by Richard Crenna in the original trilogy. Crenna died in 2003, before Stallone returned in Ramboย (2008) andย Rambo: Last Bloodย (2019).
In addition to Noah Centineo and David Harbour as the leads, John Rambo also stars Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).
Stallone, who was also a co-writer on the first five Rambo movies, signed on as an executive producer last month.
John Rambo wrapped production in Thailand in March. A release date is TBD.
