Dave Bautista Joining Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Reboot

Dave Bautista

If there’s any other former WWE Star outside Dwayne Johnson and John Cena, making waves in the acting world its Dave Bautista. Today the Guardians Of Galaxy Star is adding another franchise to his name, Dune.

Variety is reporting Bautista is joining the cast of Denis Villeneuve‘s reboot Dune. The news marks a reunion of the actor and director of Blade Runner 2049. Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy) will be in the lead role. Mission Impossible Fallout actress Rebecca Ferguson also confirmed to star.

The rights to Frank Herbert‘s cult sci-fi novel were finally bought back in 2016 by Legendary Pictures. Laying to rest those thoughts a reboot would never happen. Legendary not just own the rights to film but also the Television side too.

For anyone who doesn’t know about Dune. Set in the distant future, the story follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.

There is no word on what part  Dave Bautista will play in the film. Our hopes that will be a longer role than the one he had in Blade Runner 2049. 2019 is going to be a busy year for the actor With a role as Drax in Avengers: Endgame, next to comedy Stuber and actioner My Spy. Originally he was expected to be making Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3, but that’s in development hell after James Gunn’s sacking.

Dune was originally directed by David Lynch back in 1984. A notorious troublesome film that Lynch regards as not one of his best films. Villeneuve has said he’ll be only using part of Herbert’s novel rather than adapting the full book. Now wouldn’t we love him to use some of Jodorowsky’s vision of Dune?!
