Daredevil, Ironfist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones To Get Netflix TV Shows
Whilst the movie wing of Marvel Entertainment is the king of the castle in superheroes stake their TV wing is in need of a big push thanks largely to mixed reception of Agents Of S.h.i.e.l.d. Things maybe about to change as Disney, Marvel have announced an exciting project with Netflix to create 4 of Marvel Universe’s popular characters into their own series.
The project is certainly ambitious and with Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D lacking what made Marvel famous, superheroes this may sort out the problem. The aim is to bring the 13 part series to small screen from 2015 which they are hoping will be “a miniseries programming event” leading to the Defenders supergroup series which will see the 4 heroes come together to fight the greater evil. So who are the 4 heroes to who’ll get a show?
Let’s start with the biggest of the bunch, Daredevil the blind lawyer turn crime fighter Matt Murdock originally played by Ben Affleck in the disastrous 2003 film. The blind vigilante was also subject of recent talk of a big screen reboot too. Ironfist or Daniel Rand to his friends a New Yorker who uses his special martial arts abilities he earned from training at mystical city of K’un L’un but most of all killing a dragon destroying its molten heart with his fists. Luke Cage a man wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit but is giving early parole thanks to volunteering to experimental test that left him with super strength. Finally is one time lover of Cage Jessica Jones aka Jewel a former classmate of Peter Parker who is nearly killed in a car crash which saw her immersed in radioactive waste leaving her the ability to fly.
These series will be exclusive to Netflix which further reflects the importance of how film companies now see the internet a vital part in showcasing their schedules. This is great news for the minor characters within Marvel and how they want fans to appreciate not just their big players (Avengers, Spiderman, X-men, Captain America) but those who don’t as much publicity. Providers such as Netflix, even Lovefilm, Blinbox are the future it gives Marvel a chance to test the waters which could lead to future cinematic releases especially for Daredevil, a chance to possibly try the gritty vision that many wanted too see happen. Whatever happens Marvel fans will have many years of TV shows to look forward too and Netflix’s recent track record with original TV Series (House Of Cards) Marvel have found their perfect TV home.
