Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Releases Its First Trailer
Christopher Nolan’s next cinematic undertaking, The Odyssey, has unveiled its first official trailer, offering audiences a sweeping look at what could become next summer’s biggest movie event. The film marks Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, transforming the legendary tale into a large-scale cinematic experience.
The trailer introduces Matt Damon as Odysseus, the cunning king of Ithaca, whose perilous journey home after the Trojan War defines the story. Tom Holland stars as Telemachus, Odysseus’s determined son, adding an emotional core to the narrative as he searches for his long-lost father. Brief but striking moments in the teaser hint at the hero’s trials at sea, fierce battles, and encounters with mythic forces that threaten to derail his return.
Visually, The Odyssey appears vast in scope, with Nolan once again pushing technical boundaries by filming entirely with IMAX cameras. The imagery emphasises towering landscapes, turbulent oceans, and the isolating scale of Odysseus’ journey, reinforcing the epic nature of the source material. The film also boasts a star-studded supporting cast, including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, as well as Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Will Yun Lee and Elliot Page, suggesting a rich ensemble approach to the classic tale.
The Odyssey looks set to blend ancient mythology with Nolan’s signature cinematic intensity. The trailer suggests a story driven not only by spectacle, but also by themes of endurance, identity, and homecoming. If the film delivers on its promise, it could redefine how classical epics are brought to the modern blockbuster screen.
The Odyssey is in UK and Irish cinemas on 17th July.
