Cameron Diaz might want to return for a reboot of the American superhero comedy, The Mask.

In 1994, Cameron Diaz got her breakout role as Tina Carlyle opposite Jim Carrey, making her film debut at 21. In the film, Carrey plays Stanley Ipkis, an insecure banker who one day finds a wooden mask. When he wears the mask, he is transformed into the titular “The Mask,” a green-faced trickster who can alter himself and his surroundings at will.  The Mask was enormously successful, earning Carrey a nomination at the Golden Globes, and became a pivotal moment in Diaz’s career as it established her as a leading lady.

Now that Diaz has come out of her acting retirement and is now starring in a film after eight years, the chance of a reboot of the beloved comedy might seem more real than ever. While promoting her new film, Back in ActionDiaz admitted she would be happy to return, but on one condition: Jim Carrey has to join too.

“If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one,” she said to Access Hollywood.

Carrey himself also spoke about possibly revisiting his role as Stanley Ipkiss in a sequel:

It has to be the right idea,” he said to ComicBook admitting that he might be persuaded to return, but only if somebody has the right idea.

While there is nothing certain yet, fans will be happy to know that a reboot to The Mask now seems even more likely.
