Bradley Cooper & Margot Robbie Confirmed For Ocean’s Eleven Prequel

Cooper to also direct the film, which will take place in the 1960's.

Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper set for Ocean's Eleven prequel

With rumours bubbling around for months, maybe even years, about the status of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, word from CinemaCon last night cleared up all the speculation, and a new prequel film is confirmed for cinemas in 2027.

Previously linked to the film, both Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Bradley Cooper (Is This Thing On?) will star in the film, with Cooper also officially on board as the film’s director, too. During Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon presentation on Tuesday, head honchos Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca confirmed the news, with the starring duo also producing the film, with Robbie through her LuckyChap banner.

No other cast has been announced, nor indeed whether it is an ensemble piece or a duo, but you’d imagine the former would be true.

Indeed, just to make it 100% official, Robbie also made an appearance at the presentation – virtually – to confirm it all and said:

โ€œBefore Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents. Youโ€™ll see them in all their prime in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.โ€

Minari director Lee Isaac Chung had previously been set to direct the film but exited after creative differences. At the time, a statement read:

โ€œLee Isaac is a singular filmmaking talent whose vision and partnership have been invaluable to Warner Bros. and LuckyChap throughout this journey. Our experience with him has only deepened our enthusiasm to collaborate on future projects together.โ€

The Ocean’s franchise began with Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, before sequels in 2004 and 2007. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, and Julia Roberts led the cast through the three films (though Roberts was not part of the third film, Ocean’s Thirteen). Steven Soderbergh directed all three films.

A spin-off, Ocean’s 8, was released in 2018 and starred Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Awkwafina, Mindy Kalingย and Helena Bonham Carter. The series has grossed over $ 1.4 billion worldwide.

The new Ocean’s film is set for cinemas on June 25th, 2027.
