The cast includes Amanda Seyfried as Jessica, Rachel Zegler as Velma, Tramell Tillman as Marvin, Gaten Matarazzo as Toby, Sheryl Lynn Ralph as Paula, Paul-Jordan Janssen as Ed, Phillipa Soo as Karly and Jonathan Groff as Henry.

The film will mark Miranda’s second directorial effort, after his award-winning 2021 musical tick, tick…BOOM!, which landed at Netflix. It is an adaptation of the stage musical by Dave Malloy, who is adapting his own book for the film and is an executive producer.

It is certainly an exciting cast: Zegler just won Best Actress for Evita at the Olivier Awards; Seyfried is riding high from the box-office success of The Housemaid and her acclaim for The Testament of Ann Lee, while Matarazzo has just wrapped up Stranger Things after five seasons. Groff, meanwhile, has recently garnered huge acclaim for his role as Bobby Darin in Just in Time.

Synopsis:

Eight internet-obsessed people meet in a church basement and lock their phones in a box. The musical follows the octet as they struggle with digital dependency, charting their compulsions using only the analog vibrancy of their own voices.

Octet is set for cinemas in 2027.
