Blade Runner Officially Now Titled Blade Runner 2049

In exactly one years time we will finally get to watch the long-awaited Blade Runner sequel, Blade Runner 2. Much of the sequel’s details have been under wraps for a very long time but today the film’s official title was announced Blade Runner 2049.

The original movie which was released nearly 35 years ago in 1982, was set in 2019 and now we know how many decades on, 3 decades on the movie will be based. However, as the cast and movie title have been revealed  sadly you’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out the what actual story will be. It does make sense making it 30 years as it’s a natural progression for the new movie.

Al we do know is Harrison Ford will be reprising his role as Deckard with Ryan Gosling apparently be one of the lead roles, what part your guess is good as ours. Ridley Scott will be back onboard however he has handed over the directing reigns to Dennis Villeneuve (Sicario/Prisoners) but he is onboard as a producer.

A new image was launched on twitter for the film which sees Villeneuve, Scott, Ford and Gosling which sees the foursome chatting on set. It doesn’t reveal anything particular, earlier in the Summer we did get a look at some concept art. What we learned is the already bad climate system is even worse could it spark more dangers for the cast? The art does confirm  Blade Runner 2049 will have similar neo-noir style (seen a little in the above image too). Look again at the guns on the bar surface, do those guns look like they should be in 2019? Could it be a tease on the ‘Is Deckard a replicant?’They could easily be the new film’s ‘unicorn’

Villeneuve has already stated that his vision for the film will be its own movie, not one to match the stature and cult status like persona it has. It will be stand alone but also part of the franchise, the original movie was ahead of its time and if we go by what we’ve seen with Arrival, this looks like we’ll be in safe hands.

Blade Runner 2049 is set for 6th October 2017 release date and will star Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, David Dastmalchian, Hiam Abbass, Lennie James, and Dave Bautista.
