Benedict Cumberbatch To Be Villian In JJ Abrams STAR TREK 2?

On new year’s day saw the return of the popular modern retelling of  Sherlock Holmes BBC  tv series Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the world’s greatest fictional detective. 2011 was a busy year for the British actor starting with a National Theatre Live performance of Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein following up with a role the brilliantly intense Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Wreckers and next week we will see him in Warhorse and is currently filming in The Hobbit as the voice of Smaug. If reports are to go by it looks like his 2012 will get off to a flyer to  boldly go where no one’s gone before to star as the villain in JJ Abram’s STAR TREK 2.

Variety are reporting Cumberbatch “has landed the role that Carlos Edgar Ramirez  was auditioning for”, a role it’s believed to be Khan especially as the gossip was showing latino actors been linked to the role Benico Del Toro turned down due to either pay dispute/ scheduling problems. Ricardo Montalban played the original Khan  though Cumberbatch may not be of latino origins it doesn’t mean to say he would be a good Khan however with the actor’s so called confirmation as the villian could suggest Khan may not be the villain after all or we might have 2 baddies for Enterprise to contend with?

With Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy behind him, War Horse about to be released and presently filming The Hobbit, Star Trek 2 does look to cement the British actor in the heart of Hollywood’s A-List. So will he be joined by fellow Brit Noel Clarke who we told you about yesterday to possibly star in an unnamed role? Will Alice Eve and Peter Weller be joining him too?  Hopefully very shortly we will learn of all the casting gossip as filming is apparently due to start this month or early this year with Star Trek 2 been targeted for May 17, 2013 release date in USA, with UK&Irish date still to be confirmed.
