Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire Shoot ‘Em Up A First UK Trailer

free-fire
If it’s blood, bullets and tough guys, Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire looks like it will deliver the promise and they have the proof today as Studiocanal unleash the film’s  first trailer. Hours after making it’s World Premiere (Toronto) we have the first proper look as the ever improving Wheatley  taking another step towards become a true master of the genre cinema with a nod to 1970’s crime thrillers. To make it even more authentic he has an film auteur, a patriarch of 1970’s cinema Martin Scorsese as executive! Can’t get more authentic than that?! Are You talking me?!!

With Scorsese covering his back, Wheatley has created his love letter  as well as his own violent spin on the crime thriller genre. Or was it “felt like a really long drawn out game of laser tag.” as new Captain Marvel aka Brie Larson called it at last night’s Q&A. It sounds the cast had a lot of fun creating this and Ill be the first to admit I have never always been one of Wheatley’s biggest fans but when you to a genre I adore with great respect you will earn my respect back!Melville and Scorsese are big heroes to myself, so yes I am truly looking forward to this!

Free Fire is set in  1978 Boston and centre’s around Justine (Brie Larson) who has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen (Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley) and a gang led by Vernon (Sharlto Copley) and Ord (Armie Hammer) who are selling them a stash of guns. But when shots are fired in the handover, a heart stopping game of survival ensues.

Free Fire is set for an March 2017 UK&Irish Release Date with the film making it’s European Premiere next month at 60th BFI London Film Festival. Also starring Jack Reynor,Babou Ceesay, Enzo Cilenti, Sam Riley,  Noah Taylor with Patrick Bergin, Tom Davis and Mark Monero.
