Disneyโ€™s Beauty and the Beast is on track to open with a magical ยฃ18.4M at this weekendโ€™s UK box office making it the 5th highest grossing 3 day opening of all-time and the highest grossing 3 day opening weekend for a PG movie. The Saturday box office of ยฃ7.9m was the second highest grossing Saturday ever, only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In the UK/Ireland it also delivered the biggest Disney live-action opening of all-time, the biggest March opening weekend of all-time and #1 opening of 2017 to date.

At the US box office the film has taken $170m โ€“ making it the #7 debut of all time, the #1 March debut ever, and the #1 PG movie debut of all time (surpassing Finding Dory). Itโ€™s also the highest US debut ever for a Disney Live Action title. Itโ€™s the seventh Disney release to open over $150M. Saturdayโ€™s gross of $62.7M marks the #4 Saturday of all time.

Critics and audiences have praised the live-action musical, proving this classic story is really a tale as old as time. Beauty and the Beast now has the biggest opening ever for a musical in the UK ahead of Universalโ€™s Les Miserables (ยฃ8.13m).

Disneyโ€™s Beauty and the Beast is a live-action adaptation of the studioโ€™s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. โ€œBeauty and the Beastโ€ is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscarยฎ winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belleโ€™s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Le Fou, Gastonโ€™s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globeยฎ nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiรจre, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Awardยฎ winner Audra McDonald as Madame De Garderobe, the wardrobe; Hattie Morahan as Agathe, the enchantress; Nathan Mack as Chip, the teacup; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Awardยฎ winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.
