This has been a long time coming, there were even times we didn’t think the movie adaptation of Stephen King‘s fantasy The Dark Tower was ever going to happen. It is now and today we get a look at the movie’s first official poster which has an ‘inception’ like the style and a slogan ‘There Are Other Worlds Than These’.
We have to go back 10 years when Frank Darabont’s The Mist (another King novel) we first glanced on The Dark Tower on the big screen through Thomas Jane’s character painting. That was very symbolic and so is this poster as it finally means the countdown is on for the movie.
The poster is simple in design, juxtaposing images of our story’s protagonists The Gunslinger (Idris Elba)Roland Deschain, and Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor). The poster itself actually seems to silhouette the iconic Dark Tower itself and the two worlds like Lud the post-apocalyptic city that shares a lot of similarities. This is one of Stephen King‘s most popular series of books which fans (and King) have been waiting for a very long time. However, if you’re hoping for a straight up adaptation you maybe a disappointed. It’s believed certain characters may not be in the movie but a movie possibly based on Deschain’s journey near the end.
The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is travelling south-east across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum. It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.
The Dark Tower will be with us on 28th July in UK, Ireland and The USA. The movie is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), with Matthew McConaughey as Walter O’Dim, Abbey Lee as Tirana; Fran Kranz as Pimli, the right hand man of Randall Flagg; Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick and Claudia Kiim.
