In the 1990’s millions AND Millions! of The Rock’s fans witnessed him take many Jabroni’s to Smackdown hotel in the WWE. 20 years on in the Superbowl TV Spot for Baywatch he’s not watching the game, he’s watching ‘The Bay’.
Baywatch follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson played by the Hoff in the original) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit Matt Brody (Zac Efron played by David Charvet on TV). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
This could be 21 Jump Street In Speedos, Baywatch seems to have the Meta humour to suggest this may happen. Moving away from the cheese fest it was in 1990’s, the ‘beautiful people’ saving the day for us mere ‘ordinary’ folks. Johnson and Efron look the perfect duo possessing the comedic chemistry that in the same way Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill had in 21 Jump Street. With  Efron’s one of the lads type character  and Johnson’s charisma hope will deliver that R-Rated humour , growing with the audience. Does Johnson have enough Viagra to maintain and deliver a potential solid franchise?
Baywatch is set for 31st May UK&Irish cinema release, co-starring Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Ilfenesh Hadera, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass, Hannibal Buress, and Rob Huebel.
