He’s played the man who inspired Jordan Belfort In The Wolf Of Wall Street. In the second UK Trailer for Gold Matthew McConaughey may let himself go in the weight department but he’s ready to go from baldness to riches.
We all dream big, hoping that ultimate find sooner than later that will lift us out of the depths of hapless misfortunes. Like Belfort, McConaughey’s character has the American dream in his sights and will do anything to get his hands on the treasure. Everything comes at a price
Gold is inspired by true events (the Bre-X mining scandal of 1993), Gold tells the story of Kenny Wells (McConaughey), a modern-day prospector, hustler, and dreamer, desperate for a lucky break. Left with few options, Wells teams up with an equally luckless geologist to execute a grandiose, last-ditch effort: to find gold deep in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.
It’s now been a long time he’s starred in those dreadful romcoms but McConaughey has gone to the extremes to get the recognition he deserves. Losing nearly 40 pounds for his role in The Dallas Buyers Club to Gold gaining 40 pounds and his hair. The academy loves dedication like this and it’s surprising this movie hasn’t getting as much notice in the gossip for the Oscars. Maybe things will change when it’s released on Christmas Day Stateside
Gold stars Édgar Ramírez, Bryce Dallas Howard, Timothy Simons, Toby Kebbell, Corey Stoll, Bruce Greenwood, Stacey Keach, and Macon Blair and coming to UK& Irish cinemas 3rd February 2017.
