Jim Jarmusch is like the marmite of movieland, you either love him or loathe him! His movies can be visually wonderful but also very frustrating, though his popularity has never really dwindled. Now ScreenDaily are reporting that the arthouse director’s next movie will be an untitled vampire flick, which will have a few people scratching their noggins in disbelief; but when you look at it, in an era where virtually every Tom, Dick and Harry of a filmmaker seems to be getting backed and funded to make a vampire movie, why not Jarmusch? Different, is the first word that comes to mind. This movie will be very different, compelling, as hopefully provide a very original take on the approach.
The project is moving fast as 3 cast members have been announced to join his legion of the night. Jarmusch regular Tilda Swinton, Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska will be creatures of the night, joining John Hurt, who you will see play the old timer vampire hunter. As well as this cast news Jarmusch told Screendaily a few tidbits of the possible story for the movie –
crypto-vampire love story, set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangiers.
Whatever your views on Jarmusch, you have to give him credit for trying something different and if he can make something that’s not like Twilight, he has our attention. But lets hope the idea for this didn’t come as an afterthought from a Twilight session, otherwise we’re in for trouble!
