Preacher fans the end is nigh! After years of on off feature film then more recently TV Show, AMC  and Sony Entertainment have confirmed they will make the long awaited Preacher TV Show with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to produce!

It’s been a long long long road for fans for cult Vertigo Comics title the light at the end of the tunnel looks like it has been reached, it was however news that broke November last year that the comedy duo where keen to get onboard. Rogen & Goldberg will executive produce the show along with scripting with Breaking Bad ‘s Sam Caitlin to be the series showrunner.

Preacher was created by Gareth Ennis and Steve Dillion abut the reverend Jesse Custer a Texan preacher who has lost faith in God who decides to track God after he learns he’s abandoned his responsibilities leaving Heaven. With the aide of his 2 friends his ex-girlfriend and a friendly vampire who loves a pint at the pub than blood of innocents attempt to get those answers from God why did he abandon us. As the trio attempt to find God they have the archetypal lone gunman The Saint Of Killers hellbent in stopping  Jesse succeeding.

With the recent success of Rogen and Goldberg with This Is The End the pair may have been the likely pair to deliver the goods however they do have the experience to deliver the comic tone Preacher has. You could say the challenge getting the right balance of satirical comedy with the dark, supernatural action fans will expect to see from the comic and this is where Caitlin’s expertise will help. Here’s  what the pair had to say about today’s announcement…

We’ve tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us,” the two said. “It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!

Gareth Ennis one of Preacher’s creators  released a statement….

Steve Dillon and I are very happy to see Preacher being developed for TV, which seems a much more natural home for the story than a 2-hour movie. Between them, Sony TV and AMC have brought viewers two of my favorite shows with Breaking Bad and Mad Men, and it’s exactly that kind of creative commitment and courage that Preacher needs. Obviously it’s taken a while, but Ken Levin along with Neal Moritz and his team refused to give up, long after the point when I myself grew skeptical, and their unrelenting enthusiasm for the project has gotten us where we need to be. I’m particularly impressed that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin understand Preacher fully — meaning they get it for what it is, not some vague approximation. All in all, it looks like Preacher can now be brought to TV in a way that I’d previously not have thought possible, and I very much appreciate that Steve and I have been included in the conversation in the way that we have.”

Our only concerns about Rogen and Goldberg’s involvement is that they don’t  create another Green Hornet mess, but it’s a project they have been very keen to kick-off prove the doubters wrong. It’s early days but now it’s development time a lot can happen from now and the first episode, what we’re excited to read about who will play Jesse or even better who has the testicular fortitude to play arseface?
