Alfred Molina Set To Return As Doctor Octopus For Spider-Man 3

Our friendly neighbourhood webslinger Spider-Man will see a familiar foe returning for Spider-Man 3. Not only a fan favourite villain but an actor reprising his role. THR are claiming British actor Alfred Molina  is returning to the Spider-verse to play Dr. Otto Octavius once again!

Molina played the super villainous role in Sam Raimi’s 2004 Spiderman 2 film when he faced a Tobey Maguire Spidey. He may not be the only actor reprising villainous role with Jamie Foxx returning as Electro. This time for Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which Andrew Garfield as our webslinger.

This time it’s Tom Holland playing our webcrawler, could he also be joined by Maguire and Garfield as other versions of Spider-Man? When Foxx recently talked about returning to the role in a now deleted Instagram post, he did mention about facing three different Spider-Man! Benedict Cumberbatch will be in this film to play Peter Parker’s mentoring role as Doctor Strange. Could he also be the conduit to having three different Spideys possibly Molina and Foxx? Franchise regulars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori all set to return too.

Molina’s involvement in untitled third film was rumoured last month and would tie three generations of films together. Could Doc Ock and Electro up the ante of a potential Sinister Six spin-off in the near future?

Molina was off course involved in one of the best Spider-Man films, with Sony and Marvel working closer together the new film has potential to be a fantastic film. Also in those 16 years since Raimi’s film technology has improved the VFX of films. Opportunity to improve our mechanical armed villain’s look as with Vulture too. Would both get new looks or simply look the same as they did in the previous films? if its the latter could heighten gossip they will be from different universes?

At this stage as expected Sony Pictures and Marvel are denying nor confirming all gossip. At this stage Spider-Man 3 is still set for December 2021 release date, so we could find out sooner than we think.
