Young people sit next to water in the moonlight in Narnia: The Magician's Nephew

Dreamers of all ages, early next year a new universe will begin in the shape of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. Tonight Sony Pictures Releasing have dropped the first official Trailer for Greta Gerwig‘s fantasy adventure, the origins lie await those who dream.

Many generations have grown up reading C.S Lewis classic children’s fantasy novels. Gerwig is one of those who read the book as a child, The Magician’s Nephew is the origins story to Narnia. I haven’t read the books, I have seen many of the previous previous base on Narnia stories. Those films weren’t the greatest with only The Lion, Watch and The Wardrobe coming out on top as the ‘most faithful’.

Our director is no stranger to breaking the norms and this completely different. This will be the first time The Magician’s Nephew has appeared on the screen which excites fans. Barbie was an unexpected big success in 2023 and despite this being a classic story, this looks to have the director’s trademark emotion, dramatics and humour.

The cast for this one includes David McKenna (Digory), Beatrice Campbell (Polly Plummer) and Emma Mackey (Jadis the White Witch). They are joined by Carey Mulligan (Flora Kirke), with Daniel Craig (Andrew Ketterley) and Meryl Streep as Aslan. Ciarรกn Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough finally Susan Wokoma also star.

Synopsis | Academy Awardโ€“nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig brings C. S. Lewisโ€™ beloved story The Magicianโ€™s Nephew to the screen for the first time in a sweeping adventure that invites dreamers of all ages to experience the creation of Narnia.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will first arrive in IMAX cinemas on 10th February 2027. Following day UK and Irish cinemas on 11th February 2027. If you live in the U.S, Netflix will release the film in cinemas 12th February before heading to the streaming service 2nd April.
