Will Arnett in Is This Thing On

Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for Is This Thing On?, which you can watch below!

Directed by Bradley Cooper (who also co-stars) and starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern, the film follows Alex (Arnett), who faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess (Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family — forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.

The feature, which releases to cinemas on December 19, will have its worldwide premiere at the closing night of the New York Film Festival on October 10 at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. When asked, Cooper said the creative team is “honoured and humbled” to premiere the film at NYFF, since the city serves as the film’s backdrop. “NYC injects an energy into every aspect of filmmaking that just can’t be replicated,” he then added. Is This Thing On? is Cooper’s third directorial effort, following the likes of Maestro and his debut film, A Star Is Born.

The wider cast also includes Andra Day, Amy Sedaris, Sean Hayes, Christine Ebersole, Ciarán Hinds, and Scott Icenogle. It has been produced by Weston Middleton, Kris Thykier, Cooper, and Arnett, the latter two also co-wrote the script alongside Mark Chappell. The movie’s story was inspired by British comic John Bishop, who will also be executive producing.
