Zendaya Joins Shrek 5 In New First Look
DreamWorks has officially announced that Zendaya will join the cast of Shrek 5. The news was revealed on the official Shrek X page with a short teaser introducing Zendaya as the daughter of the titular ogre and giving fans a first look at her character.
Shrek 5 will be the first main instalment in the series since Shrek Forever After in 2010; no plot details have been revealed at this time. This long-awaited sequel will see Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy reprising their roles as Shrek, Fiona and Donkey respectively.
The film will be directed by Walk Dohrn (Trolls franchise), who previously worked on the fourth film as Head of Story as well as being a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and 3. Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru) shall be co-directing alongside Dohrn, while Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and Gina Shay will produce.
Shrek 5 was first announced by DreamWorks Animation on social media in July 2024. The franchise is, to this day, one of DreamWorks’ most revered properties. The original film, which famously became the first ever film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, spawned three sequels that all collectively racked in over $2.9 billion worldwide. The franchise also received two spin-offs, Puss in Boots and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the latter of which was Oscar-nominated.
Zendaya currently has several upcoming projects, including Christopher Nolanโs The Odyssey, Euphoria season 3,ย Dune: Messiah and the next instalment in the Spider-Man series.
Shrek 5 is scheduled for release on December 23rd, 2026.
