Young Sherlock, Princess and James look out a cracked window.

It’s been confirmed that Amazon Prime Studios has renewed a second season of Young Sherlock by co-director and developer Guy Ritchie. The show was created by Mark Parkhull with Peter Harness sharing development credits with Richtie, and is adapted from the Young Sherlock Holmes book series by author Andrew Lane. Laneโ€™s book series itself is inspired by Arthur Conan Doyleโ€™s original Sherlock Holmes books.

Young Sherlock features a cast of Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Dรณnal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, Colin Firth and Numan Ascar.

It focuses on a 19-year-old Holmes getting caught up in an Oxford-based murder mystery, which acts as an obstacle to his freedom. Committing to the case unlocks a long-running, mysterious conspiracy which changes the course of the young detective’s life forever.

The first season debuted on the 4th March and was estimated to have garnered around 45 million viewers during its first week of streaming release, earning a top ten spot for an original series’ season on the platform. Around 63% of its viewing came from outside the U.S, the same location where a reported 678 million minutes of streaming time took place for the show.

Young Sherlockโ€™s first season ran for eight episodes and attracted a Rotten Tomatoes score of 84% and a Metacritic score of 66 out of 100. Such praise has caused a follow-up season to be announced and is in development.

Additional producers include Marc Resteghini, Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, Colin Wilson and Harriet Creelman.

Young Sherlock is now streaming on Prime Video.
