WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka Dies Aged 73

On Sunday night, WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka passed away aged 73. The WWE Legend passed away with family by his side.

 

One of the WWE’s most iconic superstars and earliest pioneer’s had been battling an array of heath issues. He spent his final months in a hospice, as he was suffering from dementia. In addition to this Snuka was informed he had six months to live from December. As well as being diagnosed with stomach cancer, in August 2015.

Tributes From Fellow Wrestling Stars

Daughter of the late Jimmy Snuka, Tamina is currently on the active WWE roster. She posted a heartfelt farewell to her father, posting ” I love you Dad”. Also paying their respects were the likes of The Rock who formally announced the news, on behalf of his Snuka’s daughter. Hulk Hogan paid tribute tweeting “RIP Superfly. Only Love HH” Stephanie McMahon also tweeted “#RIPSuperfly one of the greatest icons in the history of our business. Sending our love and prayers to the entire family.”

Legal Issues

Prior to the unfortunate death of Jimmy Snuka, the WWE Legend was facing a legal battle. On May 10th 1983, then girlfriend of Snuka, Nancy Argentino was discovered with multiple injuries. Later that day she would pass away. Almost 32 years later, Snuka was arrested and later charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. After standing trial in May 2016, Snuka’s health rapidly declined, as the case was ultimately dismissed. This was due to the state of Snuka’s health not improving and in-fact worsening.

Legacy & Impact

One of Professional Wrestling’s most influential figures shall be missed. Creating one of the most iconic moments in 1982, at Madison Square Garden as Snuka leapt from the top of the Steel Cage structure. A moment which inspired a generation of future professional wrestlers. Also remembering his legendary appearance on Piper’s Pit, alongside the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Where Piper cracked a coconut over the head of Snuka, leading to one of the 80’s most memorable feuds.

 

As Professional Wrestling loses yet another icon, millions of fans shall be mourning this loss. As Superfly’s influence on the industry shall not be forgotten. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka inspired a generation and created a platform in the industry.
