Will Ferrell And Julia Louis-Dreyfus To Star In Force Majure English Remake

As we say for virtually most of the successful World Cinema films ‘Only A Matter Of Time’ and for Ruben Östlund‘s Force Majeure, that time is nigh! The award-winning Swedish dark comedy English language remake is taking its first steps first announcing its lead actors, Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

After winning Palme d’Or win for The Square the big wigs of Hollywood have been scouring Östlund’s filmography. It’s no surprise they have chosen the snubbed Swedish Best Foreign Picture entry.

Deadline is reporting Ferrell and Louis-Dreyfus will lead the film with the Oscar-winning duo Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (The Descendants) to direct. Fox Searchlight will distribute the film which will be called Downhill. Faxon and Rash may have been the writers on George Clooney’s 2011 film, the pair are no strangers to directing with 2013 The Way, Way Back been their directorial debut.

Force Majeure when it was released, it was a smaller arthouse limited release. Now Ferrell is onboard we can easily say, Downhill will be a bigger more mainstream release. That doesn’t mean this version won’t be bad. As the lead Tomas (Johannes Bah Kuhnke) runs for cover when an avalanche hits the resort, leaving his family behind. You could picture Ferrell running away and Louis-Dreyfus hurling a lot a verbal his way. It will be one that will ask the pair to create that perfect chemistry.

A model Swedish family – handsome businessman Tomas, his wife Ebba and their two beautiful children – are on a skiing holiday at a high-end resort in the French Alps. The sun is shining and the slopes are spectacular, but during lunch at a mountainside restaurant, an avalanche suddenly bears down on the happy diners. With people fleeing in all directions and his wife and children in a state of panic, Tomas makes a decision that will shake his marriage to its core and leave him struggling to reclaim his role as family patriarch.

We don’t have a potential release date or even a date to start production for Downhill. We the film’s setting being a Ski resort we expect things to start in the next couple of months. Will Ferrell will be next seen in Holmes & Watson on 26th December.
