Wicked ‘Hits’ The Magic Number At The Official Film Chart
No delusions of grandeur here! Wicked makes a magical Number 1 debut on the Official Film Chart.
Starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, musical marvel Wicked earned a very impressive 164,500 digital downloads this week, with just two days’ worth of sales. It’s the first new Number 1 of 2025, and shows there’s still plenty more to come from one of the most celebrated films of 2024.
It also marks another major chart milestone for the film; upon its release in November, the film’s soundtrack broke records as it topped several music charts and scored the biggest streaming debut for a musical soundtrack in UK chart history.
Meanwhile, another brand-new entry lands at Number 2 this week in the form of mystery thriller Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci. When Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) is tasked with leading the selection of a new Pope, he finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy that could shake the core of the Catholic Church.
The post-Christmas uptick in non-festive films sends several entries flying up, and back into, the Top 10.
One of the longest-reigning Number 1 films in chart history, Sci-Fi sequel Dune: Part Two jumps six to land at Number 3, finishing just ahead of Venom: The Last Dance which holds strong at Number 4. Alien: Romulus lifts one place back into the Top 5 (5).
Rounding out the Top 10 this week are several chart mainstays all returning to the Top 10; The Fall Guy, which rises 12 (6), Oppenheimer, up seven (7), Bad Boys: Ride Or Die (8), Barbie, which soars 16 spots (9) and finally, Terrifier 3 (10) rounds out the chart, exceeding its previous peak of Number 11.
