A young woman floats in water in Big Girls DOn't Cry

Peccadillo Pictures have released the official UK Trailer for New Zealand coming of age drama Big Girls Don’t Cry, that asks the question “who are your friends?”.

The film premiered back at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to great acclaimed for director Paloma Schneideman. The film marked her debut feature which was executive producer is none other than Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog, The Piano).

The film takes us back to summer of 2006 in New Zealand. Fourteen year old Sid discovers desire, identity and the internet whilst imitating those she wants to be.

Freda Cooper watched this film for us at BFI Flare back in March. Freda said “While it treads familiar ground, Big Girls Donโ€™t Cry marks a double debut that brings a welcome freshness to the narrative and its characters. In her first screen role, Palmer beautifully conveys the agony of that confusing limbo between childhood and adulthood“.

This stars Ani Palmer, alongside Noah Taylor (Peaky Blinders, Almost Famous) and Rain Spencer (Good Girl Jane, The Summer I Turned Pretty).

Synopsis | Itโ€™s the summer holidays in rural New Zealand, and fourteen-year-old Sid has nothing to fill them. Her father has checked out, and her only window onto a bigger life is a borrowed MSN account. Online and off, she watches the older teens who seem to move through the world so easily, and tries on their attitudes like stolen clothes. What she feels for them is part envy, part something she doesnโ€™t yet have the words for.

Big Girls Don’t Cry will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 27th November.
