A couple weeks ago I finally got a chance to see Fantastic Mr Fox as it had it’s UK TV Premier on Channel 4, it was a quirky surreal tale or ‘trip fantastic’ as one of my old school chums would call it. After a few years out the game back in January we got the first glimpse at Wes Anderson’s post Fantastic Mr Fox project MOONRISE KINGDOM with the teaser trailer and today the first poster arrives.

Moonrise Kingdom is a charming tale of two 12 year olds both in love runaway from the interfering eyes of the assembled adult cast Bill Murray, Harvey Keitel, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. Not a bad cast?! But this is a Wes Anderson film so we did expect some great name who just happen to be missing from this poster which just has our young lovers played by newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. The young tearaways seem to be in a forest surrounding fairytale like you could say they are the ‘babes in the wood’, vulnerable to the claustrophobic surroundings and what dangers that lie ahead of them, but asthetically this is delightful poster typical from the director.

We’ve also learned from Indiewire that Moonrise Kingdom will open up this years Cannes Film Festival on May 16th. The news was announced by Thierry Fremaux, the artistic director of the 65th Cannes Film Festival becoming the second American film to receive the honours with Midnight In Paris been the other, this will mark the directors first walk down the famous croisetteย  red carpet too.

Wes Anderson is one of the rising powers of American cinema, to which he brings a highly personal touch, particularly in ‘Moonrise Kingdom,’ which once again is a testimony to the creative freedom in which he continues to evolve.Sensitive and independent, this admirer of Fellini and Renoir is also in his own right a brilliant and inventive filmmaker” – Thierry Fremaux

Mentioning Cannes brings excitement to everyone at The Peoples Movies and Cinehouse as it’s our sign that Summer has arrived! Find out the who will join Moonrise Kingdom at this years festival when the full programme will be announced in April.Moonrise Kingdom will arrive in UK&Ireland May 25th.
