Conic have sent us the official UK Trailer for Mongolian drama If Only I Could Hibernate, set for release in April.
The film stars a cast of non-professional actors including Battsooj Uurtsaikh, Nominjiguur Tsend, Tuguldur Batsaikhan. Directed by Zoljargal Purevdash in her feature debut, in a film she said giving hope and inspiration to the young people of her country. It’s the first Mongolian film to be selected for Cannes Film Festival, leaving with great reviews.
If only I Could Hibernate tells the story of a family grappling with challenging living conditions in the Ulaanbaatar district of Mongolia.
Ulzii, a determined teenager from a poor neighbourhood in Ulaanbaatar, aspires to secure a scholarship by winning a physics competition. When his illiterate mother finds employment in the countryside, Ulzii is left to care for his younger siblings in the harsh winter. Juggling responsibilities, he must ensure the warmth of their yurt while simultaneously preparing for the national competition.
Emphasizing the transformative power of education as a pathway to break free from poverty, IF ONLY I COULD HIBERNATE explores critical societal issues such as Mongolia’s pervasive pollution problem and the challenges stemming from fuel shortages. Featuring extraordinary performances from the cast, Purevdash beautifully captures the intimate and uplifting journey of a family striving to overcome adversity.
If Only I Could Hibernate will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 5th April.
