Erik Poppe‘s film takes us back to 1800’s as we follow a Swedish family looking for a prosperous life. They decide to head to USA in hope poverty days are over. What lies ahead is danger, strange lands  and struggles of fear. Will this new world be the better prosperous life they desire?

This does have a Terrence Malick feel to it. Malick‘s films of late have been a disappointment, hopefully this one will rise above.

A Swedish family chooses to set out to America to escape from their poverty-stricken lives in the hopes of finding a better and more prosperous life. What follows is a journey full of treacherous danger, gruelling travels and the pressure of building a completely new life in a strange land. They are determined to fit in despite their challenging struggles but find themselves plagued by the fear that this new land may not be the idyllic paradise promised. Starring Sofia Helin (The Bridge), Gustaf Skarsgard (Vikings) and singer Tove Lo, The Emigrants is the epic story of one family’s journey of discovery.
