Watch UK Trailer For Ryan Murphy’s The Beauty

A man looks into a glass of something in The Beauty.

One shot can make you hot, according to the official trailer from Disney+ for Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming thriller series The Beauty.  The show debuts on the channel later this month and stars Evan Peters, Anthony Ramos, Jeremy Pope, Ashton Kutcher and Rebecca Hall.

Following in the wake of Coralie Fargeant‘s squeamish yet socially relevant The Substance (2024), and classics such as Robert Zemeckis’ comedy-fantasy Death Becomes Her (1992), FX maestro Ryan Murphy has thrown in his own stylish, pumped up contribution to the body horror/commentary on beauty standards sub-genre with his latest project.

The show, scheduled for release in the UK on January 22nd (21st in North America on FX/Hulu)  is an adaptation of the comic series of the same title. Set in a not-so-dystopian world, it sees a high-tech, high-flying billionaire (played by That 70s Show’s Ashton Kutcher) blessing an image-obsessed world with his gift of a beauty shot which can make users “become a beauty” with just one simple injection. The fast-working treatment seems to be doing the trick, creating an endless supply of happy customers – that is until they start dropping like flies in outrageous, gruesome ways. It’s up to an FBI duo (played by Murphy’s muse Evan Peters and BAFTA-winning Rebecca Hall) to get to the root of this mad conspiracy theory.

The project will be Murphy’s 20th show as creator and director, following decade-defining hits such as American Horror Story (2011-present), Scream Queens (2015-2016), Pose (2018-2021), Feud (2017-present) and Monster (2022-present). These shows have earned Murphy 30 award wins out of 109 total nominations and sparked endless discourse over their controversial and ambitious subject matter and presentation (specifically the serial killer biopic Monster).

The Beauty’s trailer seems to continue the show’s creator’s signature ramped up, glossy yet edgy style, with additional performances by beloved supermodel Bella Hadid, Nicola Peltz and the beloved Isabella Rossellini, while delivering an in-your-face message on the dangers of obsession with beauty right into its audiences’ lap.
