Amazon Prime reveals first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft for upcoming Tomb Raider Series
Twin Pistols? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Sunglasses? Check.
Prime Video has provided a first look at Sophie Turner in the upcoming Tomb Raider series, and she looks ready to fight dinosaurs and hunt treasure. The styling is ripped straight from the video game source material, taking inspiration from one of Lara Croft’s signature looks.
Sophie Turner’s take on everyone’s favourite aristocrat turned archaeologist is following in the footsteps of the early naughties’ Lara Croft: Tomb Raider films starring Angelina Jolie, and the failed Tomb Raider reboot starring Alicia Vikander. Amazon Prime will hope that their attempt to turn the video game franchise into a series will have better success than those previous attempts, which, while often successful at the box office, weren’t well-received critically. Sophie Turner has starred in prestige television before, most notably as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. That experience should translate well to working on Tomb Raider.
Sophie Turner as Lara Croft for Amazon MGM’s Tomb Raider
The series is being developed by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with Megan McDonnell (WandaVision) hired as a writer. Amazon MGM greenlit the project alongside franchise developers Crystal Dynamics. It is yet unclear whether the series will write an original narrative or choose to adapt prior Tomb Raider games from across the franchise’s history. Alicia Vikander’s film adapted the first game in a rebooted trilogy that Crystal Dynamics developed, whereas the original Angelina Jolie duology wrote original narratives heavily influenced by the first games in the series. Whether the series takes an original route or chooses to adapt prior stories, it’s clear that being faithful to the games, at least in the costuming, is a priority for the show. However, there is lots more to nail with Lara than just the look, with her signature charm and aristocratic accent being key elements of the character.
The supporting cast has also been announced, featuring star names like Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs and Celia Imrie, along with a newer name in Martin Bobb-Semple. Bill Paterson (Fleabag) and Paterson Joseph (Peep Show) will also feature.
The series began principal photography on 15th January 2026, with a release date yet to be announced.
