Picturehouse Entertainment have sent us the UK Trailer for Kitchen drama La Cocina starring Raúl Briones and Rooney Mara.
If you enjoyed the Disney+ series The Bear, we’ve been told you will like this. The film is directed by Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios who worked in his student days in a kitchen in London’s Rainforest Café. Throwing us into the hotpot and chaos of popular busy kitchen of a popular restaurant as tensions rise between those who work behind the swing doors.
La Cocina is based on the play ‘The Kitchen’ by Arnold Wesker. It’s the rush hour at a Manhattan grill and when money goes missing, chef Pedro (Briones)is prime suspect, Julia (Mara) is his girlfriend. Pedro wants to ‘legally’ be in the U.S, things spiral out of control.
It’s the lunch rush at The Grill in Manhattan, and money has gone missing from the till. All the undocumented cooks are being investigated, and Pedro (Briones) is the prime suspect. He’s a dreamer and a troublemaker, and in love with Julia (Mara), an American waitress who cannot commit to a relationship. Rashid, The Grill´s owner, has promised to help Pedro with his papers so he can “become legal”. But a shocking revelation about Julia compels Pedro to spiral into an act that will stop the production line of one of the city’s busiest kitchens once and for all.
La Cocina is a tragic and comic tribute to the invisible people who keep our restaurants running and our stomachs full, whilst chasing a perhaps unreachable version of the American dream.
This film also stars Anna Diaz, Motell Foster, Oded Fehr, and Spenser Granese. Picturehouse hope to release La Cocina in UK and Irish cinemas from Boxing Day, 26th December. If you can’t wait that long, the film will make it’s UK Premiere at BFI London Film Festival on 10th October.
