After making it’s world premiere at last month’s Glasgow Film Festival, Neil Askew‘s Wake Up Punk will be released in cinemas next month. Today Republic Film Distribution release the UK Trailer for the documentary about the Punk legend Vivienne Westwood.

No bones about it, Westwood is icon within the punk movement. A pivotal part of culture, the sounds, politics and off course the fashion. Highlighting the rise of Punk to it’s commercial demise to now her inspiration on the younger generations nowadays

The film featuresย  in-depth interviews with Punk legends from ‘Queen Of Punk’ Jordan, aka Pamela Rooke, who sadly died of cancer over the weekend, to Punk and Fashion Icon herself Vivienne Westwood.

Exploring the music, politics and fashion that drove the movement to its eventual commercial demise, Vivienne Westwood gives aย never heard before insight as she charts the decline of punk and the subsequent rise of climate activism among the younger generations.

Follow as Joe Corrรฉ, son of punk visionaries Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren, burns an estimated ยฃ5M worth of punk memorabilia protesting the commodification of punk.ย WAKE UP PUNKย takes this incendiary act of โ€˜cultural terrorismโ€™ and the questions it raised to explore the lifespan and true worth of punk – the 20th century’s most volatile movement.

With a fusion of documentary and magical realism, the film captures intimate moments between Vivienne and her two sons Ben and Joe as they candidly discuss their own relationship with McLaren and stories from the punk era.

Addressing voter apathy, imminent climate catastrophe and the rapidly evolving social context, WAKE UP PUNK calls for a resurrection of the energy of the “no future” generation.

Wake Up Punk will be released in select UK and Irish Cinemas from 5th May, and will be available on Digital Platforms from 9th May.
