Why Didn't They Ask Evans_ (2022)

There’s never a moment when there isn’t a show or film adapted or inspired by Agatha Christie. On Disney+ you can watch Kenneth Branagh‘s Death On The Nile, next month BritBox you can enjoy Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? Tonight the streaming channel have released the official Trailer for Hugh Laurie‘s 3 part adaptation based on the book of the same name.

Will Poulter and Lucy Boynton lead the cast in this show as a pair of amateur sleuth’s who attempt to piece together the clues of complicated murder. At the same time honouring the dead man’s final question only to find themselves way over the heads.

The all British cast look to be having fun with that slightly dark and trademark ‘English’ humour we expect from a Agatha Christie story. The project is also a personal project for Laurie who has been a fan of the 1934 novel since he was a young boy. The mini series also marks his return to directing which had last did over a decade ago with House M.D.

Based on her 1934 novel, Why Didnโ€™t They Ask Evans? opens with a fine Agatha Christie enigma: a man lies dying at the foot of a cliff, apparently the victim of an accidental fall. With his final breath, he utters the mysterious question of the title and promptly expires. Some people – perhaps most people – might shrug at the impenetrable oddness of the words and move on with their lives. But Bobby Jones and his childhood friend, Lady Frances โ€œFrankieโ€ Derwent, are not most people. They resolve to honour the dead man by deciphering, and then answering, his final question. In so doing, they hit upon a dark conspiracy of deceit, betrayal and – perhaps unsurprisingly – murder.

The cast for this show will include Conleth Hill, Emma Thompson, Paul Whitehouse, Jim Broadbent, as well as Hugh Laurie and more.

Hugh Laurie‘s Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? will exclusively launch on BritBox from 14th April.
