The Future Tense coming to MUBI in August watch trailer

MUBI might be seen as a boutique streaming channel for great films of new and old. Some of those films are fascinating like The Future Tense, which MUBI have just released the official Trailer.

The Future Tenseย  is the latest documentary from Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, and the follow-up to their acclaimed Further Beyond (2016). With a focus on identity, memory and the thorny issue of nationalism, at its heart The Future Tense centres around the filmmakersโ€™ relationship to Ireland, and their adopted home, England. Through reflections on personal and social history, The film explores the osmosis between England and Ireland, at this most critical and politically charged of moments.

Subscribers to the channel will also get a chance to watch several other films from the filmmakers. Those films include Rosie Plays Julie (3rd August), first foray into documentary explores identity and space. Further Beyond (7th August) a poignant tale of tales, exploring the filmmakersโ€™ own experiences in ageing, parenting, mental illness, and the brutal history beneath Irelandโ€™s heavy earth. Finally Helen (date TBC) an 18 year-old girl named Joy goes missing, Helen is asked to โ€œplayโ€ her in a police reconstruction that may help solve the case. When she finds out that Joy had all the things missing from her lifeโ€”parents, a boyfriend, a futureโ€”Helen immerses herself in the role and her life begins to flower.

Staged as a series of voiceover sessions, The Future Tense unfolds as a poignant tale of tales, exploring the filmmakersโ€™ own experiences in ageing, parenting, mental illness, and the brutal history beneath Irelandโ€™s heavy earth.

The Future Tense will exclusively stream on MUBI from 23rd August. The filmmakers will also take part in select Q&As at the Irish Film Institute in Dublin on 17th August and the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London on 20th August.
