Watch The UK Trailer For German 9/11 Drama Copilot

COPILOT (2021)

Ahead of it’s cinematic release next month, Modern Films have released the UK Trailer for provocative German drama, Copilot.

Directed by Anne Zohra Berrached (Two Mothers and 24 Weeks), The film is a fictionalisation of a true story, about a couple, Lebanese born Saeed (Roger Azar) and his Turkish girlfriend Asli (Canan Kir). Both who met as students in Hamburg in the 1990s.

The film made its world premiere earlier this year at Berlin Film Festival. Whilst the story maybe fictionalised it’s a story based around one of the 9/11 perpetrators Ziad Jarrah. The film hopes to highlight the cultural differences, faith and also a love story. With the 20th anniversary of 9/11 only a few week away it could be a tough watch, it seems it’s also from the wife’s perspective…

When sharp science student Asli meets charismatic Saeed in the mid 90’s, it’s love at first sight. The lovers marry, and Asli swears to be true to Saeed and never betray his secrets. Their future looks bright, but as the twenty-first century dawns, Saeed makes a decision that will not only shatter Asli’s dreams, but shake the whole world to the core.

The film also stars Özay Fecht, Jana Julia Roth, Ceci Chuh, and Nicolas Chaoui.

Copilot will be in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on the 10th September. If you happen to live in the London area, the film’s UK Premiere will be at the BFI Southbank on 6th September as part the Woman with a Movie Camera screening series with Berrached in attendance.
