When she was 11 years old, Malou Reymann‘s father transitioned to being a woman. Malou went on to study Directing Fiction at the National Film and Television School, and her semi-autobiographical debut feature is born out of her experiences as a child.
This film marks Reymann’s directorial feature debut, this film was a mainstream release in it’s native Denmark. It’s great to see the film tackle LGBT issues in a constructive open fun way.
Eleven year old Emma has a perfectly normal family until one day it turns out her dad, Thomas, is transgender. As Thomas becomes Agnete, both father and daughter struggle to hold on to what they had, while accepting that everything has changed.
Kaya Toft Loholt stars as Emma with Mikkel Boe Følsgaard as Thomas who becomes Agnete. Følsgaard maybe familiar to many as he starred in Netflix’s post apocalypse thriller The Rain. The film also stars Jessica Dinnage (The Rain), and Hadewych Minis.
A Perfectly Normal Family will be released in UK and Irish Cinemas as well as Digital platforms from 2nd October.
