Watch The Powerful UK Trailer For Audrey Diwan’s Happening

Picturehouse Entertainment have released the powerful UK Trailer for award winning Audrey Diwan‘s Happening.
L’evenement (It’s French title) originally premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival. It left the festival at the Golden Lion Winner, recently leaving Sundance with some fantastic reviews. Lead actress Anamaria Vartolomei recently won most promising actress award at the French Oscars, The Cesars. Diwan herself is nominated for best director category at this month’s BAFTAs.
The film is adapted from the autobiographical short story written by respected French author Annie Ernaux, entirely based on the recollections of her own experiences. Vartolomei is Anne a young student with a promising future, she finds herself with an unwanted pregnancy. This is 1963 France which abortions are still illegal in the country, with the baby growing and exams close, Anne is faced with the awful prospect of having to take drastic action of her own.
It’s sad to think today many women around the world don’t have the choice. With the anti-abortion voice rising, this is a film gives pro choice a voice and it’s important women have that choice. Most of all this looks a powerful social drama with a visceral emotional lead performance.
Happening is set in France in 1963 and tells the story of Anne, a bright young student with a promising future ahead of her. But when she falls pregnant, she sees the opportunity to finish her studies and escape the constraints of her social background disappearing. With her final exams fast approaching and her belly growing, Anne resolves to act, even if she has to confront shame and pain, even if she must risk prison to do so…
The film also stars Kacey Mottet Klein, Luà na Bajrami, Louise Orry-Diquéro, and also Louise Chevillotte.
Happening will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 22nd April. The film will also make it’s UK Premiere at Glasgow Film Festival on 8th March, which is also International Women’s Day [More Info/Buy Tickets].
