Dead Pigs (MUBI)

Last month we learned Boutique streaming service MUBI are set to finally giving Birds Of Prey director Cathy Yan’s feature debut Dead Pigs. Ahead of it’s premiere on the channel later this week MUBI have released a brand new Trailer.

A bitingly humorous social satire about the trials and tribulations connecting a disparate group of characters, as thousands of dead pigs mysteriously float down the river towards a rapidly modernising Shanghai.

Based on remarkable true events, the film tells a universal human story set against the backdrop of globalisation, drastic social change and increasing wealth inequality,

After the film made it’s world premiere 3 years ago at Sundance, Yan’s career is on the up. Now time to see life before stardom and it looks totally bonkers!

Part family drama, part absurdist comedy, all-out social satire: the daring feature debut from Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey) weaves together disparate stories of dreamers and oddballs, recalling the best of Altman. A timely tale of modern-day Shanghai that speaks to the universal need for connection. The fates of an unlucky pig farmer, a feisty home-owner defending her property, a lovestruck busboy, a disenchanted rich girl, and an American expat pursuing the Chinese Dream converge and collide as thousands of dead pigs are found floating down the Huangpu River, towards a modernizing Shanghai.
