Just over a week MUBI announce the release date, today we get a look at the official UK Trailer for The Girl With The Needle.

Magnus Van Hoorn‘s (Here After) grim gothic story crosses the paths of many genres. Gathering much critical acclaim sinces it’s world premiere a way back in May at Cannes. It’s that good, Denmark have picked the film to be it’s official Entry for Best International Feature at the 97th Academy Awards.

The Girl With The Needle is based on one of Denmark’s atrocious murders in the country’s history. We find ourselves in Post World War One Copenhagen, Karoline (Sonne) a young woman who is struggling to survive. She’s pregnant and now unemployed . An older woman helps Karoline as a wet nurse at a underground home for unwanted children, the pair really quickly bond until that shatters.

Young factory worker Karoline (Vic Carmen Sonne) is struggling to survive in post-WWI Copenhagen. When she ends up unemployed, abandoned and pregnant, the charismatic Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm) takes her in as a wet-nurse at an underground adoption agency which finds foster homes for unwanted children. A deep connection forms between them, until a shocking discovery suddenly shatters Karoline’s world.

The film also stars Vic Carmen Sonne and Trine Dyrholm, with Besir Zeciri, Ava Knox Martin, plus Joachim Fjelstrup. The Girl With The Needle will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 10th January 2025.
