Holy Motors was a totally bonkers film, that was 9 years ago.ย  2021 fans of Leo Carax can finally smile as Annetteย  is the film you’ve been waiting forย  and it has a Official Trailer. You can watch thatย  trailer in it’s full glory.

If everything goes to plan the film is set to open this year’sย  Cannes Film Festival. Described in the official statement from Cannes as “the gift that lovers of cinema, music and culture were hoping for“.

Starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, In Carax’s English language feature debut. This musical drama is written by the Spark Brothersย  (the focus of Edgar Wright’sย  new documentary). You’ll know this musical won’t be a straight up musical, something off kilter, obscure. Then again this is an ‘event’, a Leo Carax film.

Set in Los Angeles, we follow Henry (Driver), a stand up comedian with a fierce sense of humour . His girlfriend Ann a renown soprano singer,ย  a glamourous couple and when the birth of their daughter Annette arrives their lives change forever.


Set in contemporary Los Angeles, Annette tells the story of Henry, a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humor (Adam Driver) and Ann (Marion Cotillard), a singer of international renown. In the spotlight, they are the perfect couple, healthy, happy, and glamourous. The birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious girl with an exceptional destiny, will change their lives.

Annette is set to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival on 6th July, same time it’s makes it’s world premiere it will be released in French cinemas. There is no word on who and when the film will get an UK or Irish release.
