This Autumn it will be the end of an era when the final film performance of James Gandolfini will be released, The Drop and when it comes to money it all ends up somewhere even illegal variety.
The first official trailer arrived online and fans of Gandolfini will sleep easily that his final swansong it looks like will be a dignified one with Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace, Matthias SchoenaertsĀ Ā making up a powerful exciting cast.
Formerly known as Animal Rescue, The Drop we meet Bob (Hardy) a ex-con come bartender whose bar is a money drop off point for local mobsters a bar owned by his cousin Marv (Gandolfini). Trying to go straight thanks to his cousin’s heavy handiness Bob finds himself stuck right in the middle off a heist gone wrong.
Based around a short story written buy Dennis LeHane the premise may not be the most original but with a good director and strong cast behind it we can enjoy a potentially enjoyable flick. Bullhead directorĀ Michael R. Roskam is behind The Drop and it’s no surprise the blinding light from Hollywood Ā has grabbed him. Whilst been Gandolfini’s final film this one is based all around Hardy’s character the pair seemed to have formed a fine rapport which shines on the big screen. Hardy seems to becoming a master of accents delivering a Brooklyn style accent, like Locke (out April 18th) after a few moments it works well. Ā The trailer does attempt to pack as much into 2 minutes 30 seconds which feels at home with films like Mystic River delivering a modern Noir tale worth seeing.
The Drop will land in UK cinemas 14th November (19th September in USA).
